Effect Of Medical Management On Recurrent Stone Formation Following Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy

UroToday- Patients undergoing percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), regardless of the presence of residual stone fragments, should be treated with patient specific metabolic therapy. This was clearly demonstrated in this important retrospective study from Glenn Preminger's group at Duke University.

They showed that 34 of 49 (69%) patients selecting medical therapy following PCNL remained stable or had decreased stone burden of their residual stone disease with an average follow-up of 31.4 months.
